Fort Greene Man Stabbed and Killed In Farragut Houses; Suspect Remains At Large
New York, NY— On January 6, 2012, Marcquel McDuffy, 22, was stabbed in the head and chest with a pen knife following a wrestling match with a friend in Fort Greene’s Farragut Houses (NYCHA). According to the victim’s brother, Mr. McDuffy and the suspect (Keylester Williams) had no known conflict between them. Both parties were reportedly inebriated during the attack, which took place around 9:30PM.
Mr. McDuffy, who lived at 177 Sands Street, staggered out of the apartment following the attack and collapsed in a nearby stairwell. He was taken to the nearby Brooklyn Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Mr. Williams, reportedly an employee with Duane Reade drug stores, remains at large.
“The senseless murder of this young man is horrific,” said Council Member Letitia James. “I urge residents of Farragut Houses, Fort Greene and Vinegar Hill to work with NYPD to locate the suspect and bring him swiftly to justice.”
Mr. Duffy was a student in a music production program, and wanted to have a career in hip-hop music.

Crown Heights Woman Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver Along Eastern Parkway on Christmas Day
(New York, NY)— On Christmas morning, 38-year-old Donna Fountain lost her life after being struck down by a hit-and-run driver on Eastern Parkway near Troy Avenue. The accident occurred around 7:30AM on December 25, 2011. Ms. Fountain and her young son were on their way home following work.
The car that hit Ms. Fountain was grey. Investigators are currently reviewing traffic camera footage to uncover information about the vehicle. Witnesses have reported that the accident may have been related to illegal street-racing nearby.
Ms. Fountain was a home healthcare aid with Partners in Care, as well as the mother to an eight-year-old boy, Elijah. Officials at the scene discovered a list entitled “My Dreams” which included such personal goals as—‘find a great job, buy a house, start a sanctuary for gay and lesbian teens, marry the woman of [Ms. Fountain’s] dreams, and watch [Elijah] graduate from college’.
“To experience such a tragic loss during the Holiday season is devastating,” said Council Member Letitia James. “My heart goes out to the Fountain family and especially young Elijah. I hope the driver(s) think about the family, and comes forward to bring them some closure at this difficult time.”
In early 2011, Tri-State Transportation Campaign (a region-wide advocacy group) found Eastern Parkway to be one of the City’s most dangerous streets for pedestrians— with five fatalities reported at the time of the study. Council Member Letitia James recently requested that the NYC Department of Transportation complete a study to determine the feasibility of a slow zone along Eastern Parkway.

A suspect is in custody following a recent robbery at the Myrtle Avenue branch of Chase Manhattan Bank. Fortunately, no one was hurt during this incident. According to the New York Times- Local blog, "Devon Stevens, 34, was arrested...and charged with robbery, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, menacing and harassment." [NYT- Local]

Arrest Made In Fatal Shooting in FG Walt Whitman Housing on 8/23
On Monday, August 23, 2011, Jashaya Stanley (19) was fatally shot following a domestic dispute in Fort Greene's Walt Whitman housing. Ms. Stanley’s boyfriend Joshua Knox (19), who is the father of her 3-year-old daughter, was taken into custody as a suspect yesterday evening.
Ms. Stanley was shot three times in the chest, and was pronounced deceased at Brooklyn Hospital.

Elected Officials and Women’s Advocacy Organizations Hold Press Conference In Support Of Fair Trial for Diallo Case
Request Continuation of Manhattan Criminal Case; Criticize Public Scrutiny of Diallo
New York, NY— On May 14, 2011, former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested and charged with the sexual assault of 32-year-old Nafissatou Diallo, a Guinean housekeeper at the Sofitel New York Hotel in New York City.
By May 19, Mr. Strauss-Kahn was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on seven criminal counts, two of which are first-degree criminal sexual acts. His bail was set at $1M, with additional 24-hour home detention and an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. After Mr. Strauss-Kahn turned over his passport and posted an additional $5M bail bond, he was placed under house arrest in Manhattan. On July 1, a special hearing was called in which Manhattan District Attorney prosecutors cited credibility issues in regards to Ms. Diallo’s background, and released Mr. Strauss-Kahn on his own recognizance. He was arraigned on June 6, and pled not guilty to the charges against him.
As these events unfolded, media outlets have used alleged sources from the Manhattan DA’s office to imply that the criminal case against Mr. Strauss-Kahn was unstable. These same alleged sources have been used to paint Ms. Diallo as a liar, a prostitute, and a con artist; as well as accuse her of lying in her application for asylum in the United States by describing a false gang rape in Guinea.
Following Ms. Diallo’s accusations against Mr. Strauss-Kahn, a French writer also filed rape charges against Mr. Strauss-Kahn. In fact, the writer’s mother, who previously had a consensual relationship with Mr. Strauss-Kahn, described him as “a predator who isn't looking to please, but to take.” A French newspaper later published claims that Mr. Strauss-Kahn harassed female flight attendants of Air France to such a degree that the airline instituted a policy of placing male attendants on his flights.
Public scrutiny of women who accuse men of rape is itself a manifestation of misogyny. In this particular case, the fact that the accused is wealthy, politically connected, and white; while the accuser is poor, non-white, and immigrant suggests that there are unfortunate social stigmas at play that promote a victim-blaming mentality. The public “leaking” of confidential information regarding the criminal case— if these alleged sources are legitimate— directly interferes with the ongoing criminal case, and is unfair to all involved.
“This case is being tried in the media, when it should be decided in a court of law,” said Council Member Letitia James. “It is imperative that public opinion and spin not take attention away from the heinous nature of the crime Ms. Diallo has alleged was committed against her. The Manhattan DA should allow the facts to speak for themselves through continuing on with the criminal case.”
“Nafissatou Diallo deserves her day in court,” said Sonia Ossorio, Executive Director of the National Organization for Women (NOW-NYC). “Despite all the lies, innuendo and slander directed towards her, her allegation is credible. We urge the District Attorney to proceed with this case. Let a jury— not a media circus— decide Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s fate.”
“The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault applauds Nafissatou Diallo and all the courageous victims of sexual assault who come forward to report the crime,” said Cathleen Cogswell, Interim Executive Director of NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault. “Victim blaming is a common defense tactic, and the risk is significantly higher in a high-profile case like this one. Here’s what we know about sexual violence: We know false accusations of sexual assault are extremely rare. We know immigrant women are more vulnerable and at greater risk for victimization and exploitation by individuals in a position of power or authority, due to factors such as immigration status, isolation, cultural and language barriers, as well as fear of, and uncertainty of seeking help from the police. We know there is no right way to act after a sexual assault. And finally, we know sexual assaults are crimes of violence and power, not passion. We stand in solidarity with Ms. Diallo and all victims of sexual violence.”
“None of us benefit when injustice is upheld, and when court systems or public opinion re-victimize and criminalize women by putting the onus and blame on them for only wanting justice for the harm inflicted upon them,” said Quentin Walcott, Director of CONNECT Training Institute and Community Empowerment Program. “The merits of this case have become solely about Ms. Diallo’s character and past and not the accused-- Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s. Let’s be clear that this case is about race, class, gender, and immigration status and that DSK benefits by having privilege where each are concerned."
“Women in NYC deserve to know that their charges will be taken seriously and that they will retain their privacy while seeking justice for a violent crime,” said Rebecca Andruszka, Chapter Director of Younger Women's Task Force (NYC Metro Chapter). “We remind the city that Mr. Strauss-Kahn is accused of a crime, not Ms. Diallo.”

Also, on Monday, August 15, at 9:48 am a black male, described as 6’0” and in his 30's, wearing a Baltimore Orioles cap and orange shirt handed a teller a note at the Chase bank branch located in Clinton Hill, and fled with approximately $1,000. Fortunately, no one was hurt during these incidents, but my office will help to provide any assistance needed.
I am requesting the 88th Precinct increase patrols on Myrtle Avenue, and I have spoken with these businesses about safety precautions. The SAFE CHILD CARD contains a child’s name, biographical information (e.g. date of birth, height, weight, etc.) and a fingerprint image of both index fingers. The cards can be made in less than two minutes.
Parents and guardians can also choose, if they wish, to store the information in a statewide electronic database. In the event that a child is reported missing, the data can be disseminated to police agencies within minutes, dramatically increasing the possibility of bringing a missing child home unharmed. The storage of information is voluntary and requires a written consent of a parent or legal guardian.

“For the past year Crown Heights North has benefited greatly from being designated a NYPD Impact Zone. The law enforcement officers of the 77th precinct that patrol the neighborhood have done a stellar job in monitoring crime activity. As a result, criminal acts have noticeably decreased. The Impact Zone initiative is to be credited in part for helping to make Crown Heights a safer place to live and work.
Recently, the City's Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC) approved the creation of a new historic district in Brooklyn called the Crown Heights North II Historic District. Borders of the new district include Brooklyn Avenue to the east and Bergen Street to the north, Nostrand Avenue to the west and Eastern Parkway to the south. The new district is adjacent to the 472-building historic district that the LPC designated in 2007 as well. In light of these historic districts now in place, the presence of an NYPD Impact Zone is more important than ever.
Also, as violent activity seems to decrease during the summer, now is not the time to reduce the number of cops on-duty in the area. We fear that it will lead to an up-tick in negligent behavior. With schools out for summer and fewer opportunities for our youth, we are concerned that the loss of the Impact Zone will precipitate a sharp decline back to former dangerous conditions. Please join the Crow Hill Community Association, the 77th Precinct, and other community stakeholders in preserving the NYPD Impact Zone initiative to keep our streets thriving.”

“For the past year Crown Heights North has benefited greatly from being designated a NYPD Impact Zone. The law enforcement officers of the 77th precinct that patrol the neighborhood have done a stellar job in monitoring crime activity. As a result, criminal acts have noticeably decreased. The Impact Zone initiative is to be credited in part for helping to make Crown Heights a safer place to live and work.
Recently, the City's Landmark Preservation Commission (LPC) approved the creation of a new historic district in Brooklyn called the Crown Heights North II Historic District. Borders of the new district include Brooklyn Avenue to the east and Bergen Street to the north, Nostrand Avenue to the west and Eastern Parkway to the south. The new district is adjacent to the 472-building historic district that the LPC designated in 2007 as well. In light of these historic districts now in place, the presence of an NYPD Impact Zone is more important than ever.
Also, as violent activity seems to decrease during the summer, now is not the time to reduce the number of cops on-duty in the area. We fear that it will lead to an up-tick in negligent behavior. With schools out for summer and fewer opportunities for our youth, we are concerned that the loss of the Impact Zone will precipitate a sharp decline back to former dangerous conditions. Please join the Crow Hill Community Association, the 77th Precinct, and other community stakeholders in preserving the NYPD Impact Zone initiative to keep our streets thriving.”

Council Member Letitia James Commends Mayor Bloomberg On Demanding $600M Refund for Citytime Disasterr
New York, NY— The charges against Citytime were outrageous— on December 15, 2010 four Citytime consultants were charged with embezzling $80 million from the City of New York through steering public funds to consulting firms who funneled the money to shell companies controlled by the consultants and their families. By the time federal investigators and the NYC Department of Investigation began looking into the program’s payroll fraud and abuse, the list of crimes became more unbelievable. By February 2011, three upper-level Citytime officials employed by project contractor, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) were dismissed from their positions.
And it soon became clear why such steps were taken— two officials soon plead guilty to criminal charges, and SAIC found one senior projects manager erroneously billed overtime hours. In fact, TechnoDyne, one of the largest subcontractors of Citytime, saw its executives flee the country after receiving federal indictments for their crimes. All this brought the number of people allegedly involved in Citytime corruption since last December to a whopping eleven, with federal prosecutors seizing more than $38 million in stolen funds from over 100 bank accounts hidden in international shell companies.
It is no wonder Mayor Bloomberg— on the eve of the expiration of the SAIC contract— saw fit to demand a $600 million refund from SAIC on behalf of the City of New York!
“Mayor Bloomberg absolutely made the right decision in demanding a refund for this thief’s buffet,” said Council Member Letitia James. “I regret that he did not move to address this Citytime corruption when it first became apparent, perhaps it could’ve saved CUNY’s Vallone scholarship or DHS’ Advantage Program program, programs that offered options for low-income New Yorkers. Perhaps this money could’ve helped ease cuts to domestic violence services, criminal justice services, and city hospitals and health services. Allegations of greed and mismanagement were widespread for some time before the investigations proved them to be more than accurate.”
On September 2010, before any crimes were uncovered, Comptroller Liu announced his agreement with the administration to give SAIC a deadline of June 30, 2011 to complete all original work on the program. With the understanding that the delayed work would be completed, the program was allocated up to $32M for maintenance and support services alone. Around this time, Council Member Letitia James joined Local 375 (DC 37) in opposing the project. Council Member James cited what were at the time ‘accusations’ of administrative greed and mismanagement, as well as the ballooning costs of the program from an initial $68 million to what at the time was $700 million.
Council Member James has been a long-term opponent of the Citytime project, from her tenure of Chair of the Contracts Committee where she held two hearings on the project in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

New York, NY – New York City Council Members Melissa Mark-Viverito, Jumaane Williams and Letitia James issued the following response to comments made by Frank Barry, a spokesperson for Mayor Bloomberg, regarding the city’s marijuana arrest policy and pending legislation at the state level (S.5187 / A. 7620) that would de-criminalize the public display of small amounts of marijuana. The comments were published in New York Times’ columnist Jim Dwyer’s piece on Wednesday, June 15th (available at http://nyti.ms/mjjV2I).
“The responses provided by Mayor Bloomberg’s spokesperson, as quoted in The New York Times, provide further evidence of how disconnected Mayor Bloomberg is with Black and Latino communities. No matter how much the administration thinks that arresting youth for what amounts to low-level marijuana violations is helping to stem violence, this could not be further from the truth. These arrests only serve to engender distrust between low-income communities of color and the NYPD, which will only undermine the Police Department’s efforts to address real crime in our neighborhoods. In a time of limited resources, the NYPD should be focusing on violence that impacts our communities, rather than on the overzealous enforcement of low-level marijuana violations, which has already been de-criminalized by the state.
“Efforts are currently underway at the state level to de-criminalize the public display of small amounts of marijuana. In stating that this bill will lead to the proliferation of ‘open-air drug markets’ on our streets and the ‘reversing (of) successful efforts to clean up neighborhoods,’ the administration is employing scare tactics, which should not be tolerated. Let us set the record straight. This legislation will do nothing to legalize the open sale or possession of large amounts of marijuana, but will close a loophole in the law that criminalizes tens of thousands of our young people each year, when they are asked to remove small amounts of marijuana from their pockets, and then arrested on the grounds that it was exposed to public view.
“According to data released yesterday, the NYPD is on target to make 60,000 marijuana possession arrests this year—more than any other year in history. Although statistics show that Caucasian youth make up the majority of marijuana users, almost 90% of those arrested in recent years have been Black and Latino youth. This is nothing short of a race-based policy of enforcement, and it must be stopped. We call upon the Mayor to support the bipartisan legislation introduced in the State Legislature by Senator Grisanti and Assemblyman Jeffries.”

(New York, NY)— On May 25, 2011, New York City Comptroller John Liu released important information related to the Citytime payroll project, which was the focus of a federal indictment in December 2010 due to the $80M in City funds embezzled by project contractors.
The Comptroller’s office received communication written to the Executive Director of the Financial Information Services Agency (FISA) by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), contractor of Citytime. FISA maintains various financial information systems for the City, such as its centralized accounting and budgeting system, payroll system, pension system, and personnel system. The communication stated SAIC’s notice of dismissal of Gerard Denault, the senior projects manager of Citytime.
The SAIC found that Mr. Denault violated company policies in relation to timekeeping practices within the project. For instance, he routinely billed hours to Citytime that he did not work.
“With the dismissal of Mr. Denault, we come to see that the greed that led to the 2010 Citytime fraud was not just the work of a handful of contractors, but the unfortunate result of a system that is poorly-managed and ill-supervised,” said Council Member James. “This project is a thief’s buffet. How much more evidence must we uncover before we put Citytime to rest, and take a long look at the way we handle private contracts throughout this City?”
Council Member James has been a longtime opponent of the Citytime project, spanning her tenure as Chair of the Council’s Contracts Committee, where she held two hearings on the project in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, she applauded Comptroller Liu on standing firm on his commitment to enact oversight to Citytime— giving SAIC a June 2011 deadline to complete long-delayed work, and ceasing further development of the project. Following the $80M embezzlement of City funds by Citytime contractors, Council Member James joined many of her colleagues in calling for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to cancel their existing contracts with SAIC until further review of Citytime’s timekeeping practices, management errors resulting in erroneous overtime payments, and exuberant project funding requests.
In light of Mr. Denault’s dismissal, SAIC has committed to refund $2,470,522, the amount he billed to the City. Furthermore, Comptroller Liu has called on the Department of Investigation to conduct a comprehensive review of other possible violations by SAIC.

The jury convicted both officers of official misconduct for entering the woman’s apartment, but found them not guilty of other charges including falsifying business records and burglary
“I am outraged that this victim is a victim again, and that a woman’s credibility is in question again. How could this happen? Two police officers are called to help a drunken woman get out of a taxi, and then the young woman is awakened by being raped in her apartment by one of the officers?
This victim behaved responsibly in many ways - while out celebrating her impending promotion she took a taxi home, and also accepted help from law enforcement into her apartment. The public trusts the NYPD, and believes they will always protect them. But, on this night a perverse abuse of power and police misconduct ensued. It is unconscionable that these two police officers, who had been called to help a defenseless woman, had instead left her violated and in her own vomit, as she tragically testified.
The victim’s testimony is compelling: according to newspaper reports, the woman heard police radios and Velcro before being penetrated as she lay face down unable to resist. Also, the officers were captured on surveillance cameras re-entering the woman’s East Village building three times, and have no explanation for it. (None of the additional visits to the apartment were reported to superiors.) The officers both admitted to violating their duties on that night, including Officer Moreno’s testimony that he held the drunken woman in her bed while she only wore a bra, which is a clear violation of his duties.
Also, in a recorded conversation with the woman, Officer Moreno told the woman that he had worn a condom. What more proof of rape is required I ask? A sober police officer having sexual relations with someone fading in and out of consciousness is clearly sexual predatory behavior. It’s reported that Officers Franklin Mata and Kenneth Moreno look stunned after hearing the verdict, and for good reason. The officers acknowledged a number of missteps including Moreno making a fake 911 call – obviously as an attempt to cover tracks.
Besides the rape acquittal, the officers were acquitted of falsifying business records and burglary, including three counts of second-degree burglary for taking the victim’s keys and returning to her apartment. Only the misdemeanor charges of official misconduct garnered a conviction. I ask, were these officers given a ‘pass’ because they work for the NYPD? Women and victim’s rights advocates across the City are coming together now to ensure justice prevails, for this victim and for all who have experienced sexual abuse and rape. Also, in light of the misconduct conviction, termination of these NYPD officers is necessary.”

CM James and Community Speak Out On Recent Sexual Assaults; 88th Precinct Community Council Addresses Residential Concerns

NYC COUNCIL MEMBER LETITIA JAMES AND RESIDENTS CONCERNED ABOUT RECENT SPATE OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN BROOKLYN: 88TH PRECINCT COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING ON 2/15 WILL ADDRESS
Police have linked two recent sexual attacks in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, to a similar attack that happened earlier last month in Bensonhurst. On January 19, a sexual predator attempted to rape a 25-year-old woman near the corner of St. Felix Street and Hanson Place.
The woman was walking past the busy corner at 1:30 am when the suspect grabbed her from behind, and tried to tear off her clothing. But, the sex fiend ran away once the victim began to yell for help, and fortunately the woman was unharmed. A week later, according to police, this attacker’s efforts were once again thwarted on January 26, when a passerby interrupted his attempt to assault a 24-year-old woman near the intersection of Fulton and Cumberland Streets at 1:15 am.
“Fort Greene is a village-like community,” said Council Member James. “These kinds of incidents are extremely disturbing because this area has grown much safer in recent years, and residents feel they should be able to travel around without incident.”
The 88th Precinct reported a decline in rapes by 85-percent during the last 10 years. Also, the Fort Greene Association headed by chair Paul Palazzo, and Council Member James are working with the City to improve lighting conditions within the community. The installation of more video cameras is also under consideration.
“The community is making it known that these incidents are unacceptable, and this level of crime will not become the new normal,” said Mr. Palazzo, who has lived in Fort Greene more than 27 years. “On behalf of FGA, I would like to commend the 88th Precinct Police on the overall reduction of crime this past decade.”
According to the 88th Precinct, the Special Victims Unit is heading up this investigation because they handle all sexual crimes. The community is invited to attend their monthly meetings; February’s meeting begins at 7pm (this evening). The event is taking place at the Institutional Church of God in Christ, located on 170 Adelphi Street between Myrtle and Willoughby Avenues.
“It’s critical that everyone be hyper-aware of their surroundings to protect themselves while on the streets. I encourage residents to attend local Precinct Community Council meetings held monthly. Also, a Public Safety Task Force is now in place, which my office helped to form last year and seeks to foster community involvement. Please call my office for more information, or to be added to the task force e-mail list,” said Council Member James.
Police described the attacker as a white man of around 30 to 35 years. He is between 5-foot-11 and 6-feet in height and of medium build, with light hair. He wore a dark pea coat with a light colored button-down shirt

NYC COUNCIL MEMBER LETITIA JAMES AND RESIDENTS CONCERNED ABOUT RECENT SPATE OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN BROOKLYN: 88TH PRECINCT COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING ON 2/15 WILL ADDRESS
Police have linked two recent sexual attacks in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, to a similar attack that happened earlier last month in Bensonhurst. On January 19, a sexual predator attempted to rape a 25-year-old woman near the corner of St. Felix Street and Hanson Place.
The woman was walking past the busy corner at 1:30 am when the suspect grabbed her from behind, and tried to tear off her clothing. But, the sex fiend ran away once the victim began to yell for help, and fortunately the woman was unharmed. A week later, according to police, this attacker’s efforts were once again thwarted on January 26, when a passerby interrupted his attempt to assault a 24-year-old woman near the intersection of Fulton and Cumberland Streets at 1:15 am.
“Fort Greene is a village-like community,” said Council Member James. “These kinds of incidents are extremely disturbing because this area has grown much safer in recent years, and residents feel they should be able to travel around without incident.”
The 88th Precinct reported a decline in rapes by 85-percent during the last 10 years. Also, the Fort Greene Association headed by chair Paul Palazzo, and Council Member James are working with the City to improve lighting conditions within the community. The installation of more video cameras is also under consideration.
“The community is making it known that these incidents are unacceptable, and this level of crime will not become the new normal,” said Mr. Palazzo, who has lived in Fort Greene more than 27 years. “On behalf of FGA, I would like to commend the 88th Precinct Police on the overall reduction of crime this past decade.”
According to the 88th Precinct, the Special Victims Unit is heading up this investigation because they handle all sexual crimes. The community is invited to attend their monthly meetings; February’s meeting begins at 7pm (this evening). The event is taking place at the Institutional Church of God in Christ, located on 170 Adelphi Street between Myrtle and Willoughby Avenues.
“It’s critical that everyone be hyper-aware of their surroundings to protect themselves while on the streets. I encourage residents to attend local Precinct Community Council meetings held monthly. Also, a Public Safety Task Force is now in place, which my office helped to form last year and seeks to foster community involvement. Police described the attacker as a white man of around 30 to 35 years. He is between 5-foot-11 and 6-feet in height and of medium build, with light hair. He wore a dark pea coat with a light colored button-down shirt

FG Attempted Rapist
According to the NY Times/Local Blog, a man approached a 25-year-old woman early on January 23rd at St. Felix Street and Hanson Place. When he attempted to remove her clothing she screamed, alerting neighbors, and scaring the suspect away.The attacker is a white man, 30-35 years old, and between 5'11" and 6', with medium build and light hair.

Crown Heights Shooting
On Sunday, January 9th, 2011 at 12:15AM, 3 men were shot in front of 801 Dean Street.
(1) Victim- Male, Black, 19 years old was shot one time and was taken to Kings County Hospital for his injuries.
(2) Victim- Male, Black, 22 years old was shot one time and was taken to Kings County Hospital for his injuries.
(3)Victim- Male, Black, 18 years old was shot one time and was taken to Kings County Hospital for his injuries.
The perpetrator for each of these victims is unknown at this time. The case is under investigation with the 77th Precinct Detective Squad. Shooting In Front of BK High School On MLK Holiday

(Brooklyn, NY) Five teenagers were shot last Friday night around 10pm after a basketball game in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn between Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School and Christ the King High School. The victims and locations of wounds include: an 18 year old female in the left foot; an 18 year old male in the left foot; a 19 year old male in the hip, calf, and buttock; a 17 year old male in the right ankle; and a19 year old male in the left arm. The shooting occurred in front of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, between Greene and Vanderbilt Avenues.
In a letter from Bishop Loughlin's President, Brother Dennis Cronin, regarding last Friday evening’s shooting he said: “We at Loughlin are deeply grieved by the random street violence that occurred in front of the school on Friday night. I am relieved to report that no Loughlin student was involved in this incident. We extend our sympathy to the families and young people who were injured by this senseless and random violence. It is a violation of our school community, the safety we seek to secure, and the values we work to instill in those entrusted to our care.”
4 victims were transported to Kings County Hospital, and 1 male victim walked into Brooklyn hospital. According to reports, none of the injuries were life threatening, and immediately following the shooting all were in stable condition. The 88th Police Precinct responded quickly with a strong presence and secured the area surrounding the school.
“I know from experience that most basketball games at Bishop Loughlin High School are peaceful. And, there was a police officer on the premises that evening. I’d like to assure the community this incident did not involve Bishop Loughlin or Christ the King High School students. Apparently, the fight may have broken out over a teenage girl, or a possible robbery motive,” said Council Member James. “I would like to hold a meeting with the leaders and basketball teams of both schools to discuss methods for security and protecting the students, as well as protecting the community and all visitors during and after basketball game nights.”
